A clear explanation of what happens to your PDF

Local PDF transformations

Merging, splitting, extracting, removing, reordering and rotating pages; converting PDFs and images; extracting readable text and converting readable PDF content to Markdown; compressing; cleaning metadata; flattening forms; adding page numbers and applying watermarks are performed by code running in your browser.

For these operations, the selected source document is not uploaded to the PdfWiseAI server for processing. The browser creates the result in memory and makes it available as a download. The original file is not overwritten and the generated output is not saved to a PdfWiseAI account because no user account is required.

AI document chat

Document chat requires remote AI processing. The browser first extracts readable text page by page. When you submit a question, PdfWiseAI sends the file name, page count, a limited amount of extracted text, your question and a limited recent conversation history through its server to the configured AI processing service.

The complete PDF binary is not required for this text-based request. Responses may contain page references and a suggested action. Always compare important facts with the original document.

Technical limits and abuse prevention

The interface accepts PDF files up to 60 MB. AI requests are limited in document text length, message length and frequency. A short-lived in-memory request counter associated with the network address is used to reduce automated abuse. It is not used to create a user profile.

Website analytics

PdfWiseAI uses a self-hosted Plausible Analytics installation to understand aggregate website visits and improve the product. Website analytics are separate from PDF processing and are not intended to inspect the contents of selected documents.

Your choices

• Use local tools when you only need to transform a document.
• Avoid AI chat for information that should not be sent to a remote AI processing service.
• Remove unnecessary personal or confidential information before analysis whenever practical.
• Delete downloaded results from shared devices when they are no longer needed.
